What is the difference between Tea and Herbal Tea?

Here at “Victory Tea Company” we get that question all of the time.

The Proper name for Herbal Tea is “Tisane”. Tisane is defined as [An herbal infusion or similar preparation drunk as a beverage or for its mildly medicinal effect]. Herbal Teas do not contain caffeine or many of the other elements that traditional teas do, however depending on the type of herb used, they do offer many health benefits of their own.

Herbal Teas are different from the traditional teas that come from the Camellia Sinensis plant. All real traditional teas (white, black, green yellow, oolong, etc.) come from this same plant. The differences in the traditional teas is how they are harvested and prepared. Herbal Teas are made up of different types of flowers, herbs, spices, and dried fruits which are inherently caffeine free. Other herbs used include chamomile flowers, lemongrass, basil, rose buds, and many more.

So now that we know the difference between Herbal and Traditional teas, what are the differences in their health benefits.?

The traditional tea called Green Tea is packed with antioxidants. The antioxidant called EGCg can help treat many cancers. Some of these cancers can include breast, skin and stomach cancer. Green tea also can help protect the body from damage caused by UV rays as well as help control cholesterol levels.

White tea is known to help decrease inflammation associated with arthritis. Some of the healthy ingredients in White Tea are known as catechins, phenol antioxidants that help the body release toxins and heal itself.

Black Tea also contains lots of antioxidants that help the body fight free radicals that can lead to premature aging and mental health problems. Studies have also shown that Black Tea can improve arterial health in people suffering from heart disease.

There are polyphenols in Oolong tea that are known to improve metabolism and can help with weight-loss. This tea is also known to help in reducing cholesterol and lowering blood sugar in those with type-II diabetes. Skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis are also improved When drinking Oolong Tea.

Herbal Teas all have differing health benefits depending on the type of herbs used. Some of our favorites here at “Victory Tea Company” are our Healthy blends.
